The Logic Of Surak: Surak

The rules and techniques developed by the Vulcans to supress their emotions came from their Patriarch of logic, a Vulcan male named Surak. By the time the writings of Surak were revealed, they were already more than 1800 years old. Vulcans had begun to adopt logic and the suppression of emotions long before they found the writings of Surak, probably through a "handed-down" process that started during the time of Surak. It took the Vulcans between 1800 and 2000 years to fully evolve the foundation of their civilization from emotions to logic.
The Humans had come to understand that the Vulcans had a lot to offer them, as the Humans perceived Vulcans to be an "advanced species" (and with good reason). The Humans were desirous of a deeper relationship with Vulcan. Vulcans, on the other hand, perceived Humans as an analogue to their savage past, were leery of Humans, and thus did not trust them. One of the key turning points in the decision by the Vulcans to trust the Humans was the discovery of an artifact called the "Kir'Shara" by a Human. The Kir'Shara (as the story goes) contained Surak's original writings, which were considered "The Logic Of Surak". Once the Kir'Shara had been found and activated, all of Surak's original writings on how Vulcans should use logic to end their warring and infighting and instead live lives of peace appeared in the form of a large cylindrical hologram, projected by the Kir'Shara in "Traditional Golic Vulcan" script. One of the Vulcan "rebels", named T'Pau, became a leader of the Vulcans as a result of the discovery of the Kir'Shara. During the time of Vulcan infighting, T'Pau was considered a "rebel" because she had complete belief in the existence of Surak, his writings, and the Kir'Shara. When the Kir'Shara was found, T'Pau became a great leader of the Vulcan people. The distrust between Vulcans and Humans subsided to a large degree - both because the Humans befriended T'Pau and discovered the Kir'Shara, and because the Vulcans, by following the Logic of Surak, were better able to understand the Humans. Surak's writings are fictional, and thus do not exist. They were simply a complex graphic design created by talented digital graphic artists et al. I will not make any attempt to translate what are (as far as I know), meaningless symbols in a fictional language called "Traditional Golic Vulcan". I invite you, the reader, to follow me on my journey, using everyday reasoning to solve major world issues. I invite you to follow me as we create a set of logic that can apply to all situations: The Logic Of Surak. |
